You've looked beneath the surface and found that what exists on the outside is a mere fraction of what exists within.

 

Beneath the surface refers to the deeper aspects of something, it is not the traits that are easily identified but rather something more than the eye can see. What you see on the surface is often not what is underneath.

 

When creating something, it is not enough to just scratch the surface. You need to dig deep and get under the skin of your audience. Ideally you want to get their brains working, heart racing and leave them breathless. Essentially, anything that is designed has to trigger an anatomical response in order to leave a mark on the audience and get under their skin.

 

My aim as a designer is to communicate on a deeper level with my audience while bringing across the value of looking beneath the surface. This portfolio serves as a guide to what cannot be seen, it focusses on what is felt. Each piece included gets beneath the surface in some way or another. I explain the surface of the project and then, underneath, I delve deeper into each project, explaining my own anatomical reactions to the creation.

 

I implore you to look deeper. You never know what may lurk beneath the surface.
